As a fit and active man in his 70’s, I have a good appreciation of the importance and long term benefits of maintaining a good regime of exercise and healthy lifestyle choices. I also recognise that effective exercise and training programs are highly individual. There is no “one size fits all”, or only one best way to achieve the benefits desire. is focussed primarily on people who find it necessary, preferred or beneficial to carry out their main training program at home or from home. This is not to say that gym attendance and programs are not good or appropriate, and it is not our intention to advocate one form of training above another.

Our aim is to look at the issues around home based fitness or body building training and provide information on when choosing a home base might be a good idea, and how to get the best out of the equipment and programs on offer.

We are also interested in facilitating a dialogue and sharing of information through readers comments. We welcome feedback and know that in many cases our readers will be in a position to share personal information and experiences that will prove valuable for others. We will

In general, we will be researching issues that we believe are relevant and of significance to home-based training, and attempting to give you the best of the best information. Our opinion may be stated at times, but mostly it will be a case of providing well-sourced and reliable information in order for the reader to make their own decisions with as much relevant information as possible.

Having worked in senior positions in education, health, and aged care, I have spent many years researching data and information in order to understand the main and important issues of a subject. After reading and consulting widely on a given topic, my tasks have then been to distill the information into an easily understood summary, with recommendations for best practices and appropriate and informed decision making.

At times, we will make references to pieces of equipment that we consider appropriate for your home gym, and provide a link to sources of purchasing of that equipment. If you choose to purchase through our link the type of equipment we have mentioned, we will receive a small commission. This is at no cost to you, and there will never be a “hard sell” to buy any specific brand or piece of equipment.

Sometimes we will specifically review a specific brand of equipment for  the benefit of inquirers, but we will not recommend any product above another. We will, however, do our best to provide you with the information that allows you to make an informed decision as to whether one brand or another meets your needs. We understand most people cannot always buy the top of the range equipment, so you need to know what is nearly as good, or what you can achieve within your budget.
